Dance Program Guide

JAZZ

"What is Jazz anyway?" is the question we are frequently asked. Jazz Dance is the current danc-ing you see in music videos, and in Broadway Musicals like "Chicago" and "Moving Out". Jazz also takes on the new movement of the time as in the current "hip-hop" style. Our warm-up technique section of each class works on alignment, strength and flexibility. Combinations are filled with the contemporary movements our dancers love; also stressing turns and leaps.

BALLET

Our classical ballet program was designed to bring training of the highest artistic standards to our students. Classes stress proper body placement and use of the terminology - the special lan-guage of Ballet. Pointe classes are available for advanced students. Since the fundamentals of all major dance forms come from Ballet, its study is recommended for all serious dance students.

TAP

For anyone who has been excited by the syncopated rhythms of a tap dancer's feet, we have a class for you. From the earliest part of the century when tap stars topped vaudeville marquees and flappers filled the Broadway stage, to the MGM movie classics with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers gliding across the screen, to Savion Glover or Tommy Tune filling a stage today with their marvelous sounds. Tap dance is part of the American culture. We help keep this American art form ‘alive and well' with classes for Beginners to Advanced levels for children and adults. Our tap choreography has won countless national awards and has been seen on ESPN.

JAZZ/HIP-HOP

Our Jazz/Hip-Hop programs combine solid Jazz technique with the hip-hop moves that everyone loves. It includes an across the floor section where turns and leaps are mastered in addition to exciting cutting edge choreography.

HIP HOP

Classes that are labeled Hip hop only consist of New York style pure Hip-Hop such as b-boying/ b-girling, popping, locking, etc. Hip hop is a lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music and mind set that is continuously evolving. This makes a great additional program for our Jazz students.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a beautiful blend of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern Dance. Students learn the tech-nique of Ballet, the rhythms of Jazz, and the emotion of Modern Dance. A dancer takes on the role of an actor and tells a story through technique and emotions using facial expressions and body dynamics. Lyrical dance creates a story or expresses the mood or theme of the music and its lyrics.

BOYS CLASSES

Center Stage is proud to offer classes specifically for boys. The structure of our boys class is geared to a masculine style in an environment that is comfortable for boys who want to dance. Jazz classes for boys consist of funk, street jazz, and hip-hop. We offer levels from beginner boys to advanced classes, young children to older teens. So come on down guys, and give us a try. We guarantee that you will love it. Center Stage is home to our DAWGZ Boys Competition Company, a dance company for boys only.
