Young Children Program Guide

Curtain Up Level I  is an overview of the programs that are offered at our studio - Ages 3 to 4, and Ages 5 to 6. Here, students begin to learn, through tap, how sounds fit into music; through pre-ballet, the grace of movement; through jazz basics how to isolate the different parts of their bodies. The children sing to music and do basic acting exercises. The program is quite varied, making it an exciting beginning of our young students' dance education.

Curtain Up Level II is the next step in our young children’s dance development. Building on what they have learned the year before, the beginnings of stage dancing are ap-proached. Tap rhythmics are very helpful at this age. Children learn how to count music, they are reinforced by sounds they make and learn how their movements fit into music. The Jazz training is very popular with all students because of the contemporary music and movements that they see on television or movies such as High School The Musical.

Future Stars Program This program is the beginning of our young students’ journey to becoming dedicated, well-rounded dancers. Students commit to studying 1 hour per week of Jazz/Hip-Hop, 1 hour of Ballet, and 1 hour of Tap per week. These are designated "Future Stars" classes, where the teachers will carefully watch over and groom the Future Stars Students and track their progress. In January and at the end of June, Future Stars Students will have conferences with their teachers and our Artistic Director, George Warren, to personally discuss and evaluate each student’s progress, focusing the students and their families on their development. As students reach the age for dance companies (usually from age 7 or 8), the faculty will advise the family when the Future Stars Student is ready to join the company, thereby skipping the audition process. Having worked developing performing artists for the past 30 years, we at Center Stage are very excited about this new program to focus in on dancers from a very early age who see performing arts in their future.

Remember, every star was once a Future Star!
